Nothing distracts from the beauty of the surroundings and the peace. The whole wild coast with cliffs and sandy beaches is a big nature park, where you can find seldom plants and animals. You can just enjoy long walks in the nature or do yoga, biking, and surfing. You can also relax by taking sun and swimming at wonderful lonely beaches. Apart from August you will probably be one of very few people on the beach. The best way to explore the wonderful area is to rent a car. Then you can visit best the many beaches, the castle which was built by the Arabs in former times, the romantic villages, the mountains of the Serra de Monchique or the most south-western point of Europe, Sagres and the cape. You can also have a nice excursion to the typical cities of Lagos, Odemira or Portimao. The famous Alentejo with its soft hills and plains, full of cork oaks and wheat, is also close by. Local food, especially delicious fresh fish and seafood, can be found in the little typical restaurants of the area.
